Indeed interesting post.
Most of the people, could state the same about living a "routine life".
Some people like it, some other not.
Maybe just don’t be so drastic about that. :)
Another option could be to join me to visit the next museum exhibition... hehehehe!

ragin
It would still be better if one could remember that he/she was previously in a state of disillusion !
WordPress 2.0 is out ? Does it implement comments preview ? 8) ..otherwise I can't see much need to switch (troublesome !)

Ah, that's the big question of the century: "What is truth?" Is the truth true universally or is it only true in certain contexts. Here's a hypothetical situation: What if the loose of memory causes one to forget about a lie or dillusion that one once held ... resulting in learning the truth? By the way, WordPress 2.0 is out now. :)

rince
That reminds me of Colombo(Columbo). He always takes note of everything.. otherwise he'd forget.
Still it's not so easy to take note of everything and to be able to get back to those notes.. one problem already with memory is that it's generally difficult just to decide which section of memory one has to access.

Ragin
To me the most important thing is truth, and that's not achieved by lack of memory. So removal of bad memories is bad as well.
One could be happy by being extremely forgetful, air headed, carefree.. but then again, one could be happy as well sleeping on some drugs.

Sometimes I'm very sleepy at work and I feel how it is to be stupid.. I think. That's actually not so much about lack of memory but rather about doing improbable connection between things. For an instant, I can correlate two or three completely different items (physical things or even just concepts) through some logic that is not.
That's interesting but scary too.. it's almost 5am.. maybe I should sleep now 8)

Aside from our environment, I think our memories have a hand in shaping our personality ... or rather "helping" us in determining how we will react to the input that life gives. I'm not so sure if there's any real good answer ... it might be good to have all my memories in tact, but then again, it might be bad.

Rince, you should have an internal FAQ page ... That way, they have to go check there before they come to you. 8P

I think the ability to remember the past is very important. Everything that happens at present is a result of a function whose
input is everything that happened in the past. present = f( past );

If we could determine what 'f' is then we could predict the future?

But in any event if you consider this in a more practical context of work environment for example. Being a graphics programmer
I have people approaching me about implementing some new effects in our graphics engine. Usually we have a discussion and
sometimes decision is made not to go ahead with the implementation for some reason. But human mind tends to forget things and
often months later I get the same request usually from the same people. And I vaguely remember having discussed this
before, but can't really think of the reason for the decision not to do it. And once again time is wasted on analysing and
discussing the issue.
