One, two, three..

On Friday, with a long weekend coming, the premise was to be somewhat productive. However, things didn’t turn out as good.
Friday night I went out with some friends, Saturday night with some other friends, Sunday night went out again !
Saturday I went to a the swimming pool with a friend. We arrived there at 4PM or so. The weather was cloudy. Nothing much really came out of it 8)
My friend again went today (Monday). He went at around 12:30PM.. eager to get some tan.. with a newly purchased level-50 sun-screen ! Clearly a confused choice pushed by the clerk at the drug store.
He left at 3PM, called me, I went there at 4PM and then we both got into the pool again. This time he didn’t put any sun-screen, and actually tried to wash off every bit he had put before… he should have done like me: slept into the afternoon and got there at 4PM.. because in the end we got the same “tan”, even though I did put some level-20 screen.

Clubbing around turned out fun. I went to one of those clubs mostly for foreigners. I invited a friend and another friend of hers. However, because I tried doing that in Japanese, I told her “I’ll get in touch” while I really ment to say: “keep in touch/let me know”. That had me a bit worried: how many times have I made this mistake before ? Being a beginner at a language is surely a dangerous thing.
The fun and spooky part of these clubbing sessions was that I’d go and meet people that I knew. Mostly ex-partners of friends. It’s a situation that can complicate things, but at the same time, it’s nice to go to a place and find some sort of ally !
Chance also wanted that I met a Japanese girl that spoke Spanish ! Spanish is very close to Italian. I did practice a lot of listening (I sometimes watch Spanish language soap-operas), but I never tried to actually speak it.
It’s was a bit odd but definitely fun. I tried to speak Japanese and Spanish all the time with her… a doubly-learning experience.

..I guess I have been somewhat productive then.

Careful you don’t get infected at the pool like mr _6502_ !!!!

You might catch some exotic asian disease.

someone going to respond to this?

in the meantime we started looking at doing a port to the PC… hhhmmmm dx9 and HLSL…..

dx9 sdk doesn’t even have any sample code with vertex and pixel shader assembler instructions.

It’s all HLSL this and HLSL that…

    anonymous again!

Here at the gym and even in the pool, nobody seems to wear sandals. It’s perhaps forbidden to use them, even for showering. I abided and never wore them.
Some sandals were being distributed in the pool the other day however, that was for walking outside, where the floor can get very hot.

In any case I never got any disease, even though the environment more humid.

Not yet!! But you will, eventually.

It’s off topic….But I discovered that I work with a guy that told me to tell you
“lecca billy!!!! (te saluta er silifoffi)”

    Now you have to guess!

  7. Davide Pasca says:

Ummm.. eh ? Not sure about silifoffi (silbocci ?!).. I have in mind 2-3 ex classmates form highschool. I need more hints !!

    woo !

  8. Pomy says:

Well, tomorrow I’ll ask him for more “hints”!! The world is very small! We were discussing about salary and were saying that probably in US salaries are much higher than in Italy - especially in our firm :) And when I said that a friend of mine worked in US and then in Japan, this guy arrived and said: “Are you talking about Davide Pasca?!?!” :D

BTW Tomorrow I’ll be in IRC, it’s a while I’m out of it

    See ya there!

  9. Davide Pasca says:

Heh, if it’s the guy I think he is.. then I wouldn’t leave him alone in a room with a printer and a stapler… !

  10. Pomy says:

Maybe you are saying “Romeo er più bello del colosseo” or “pansanella”. Instead my collegue is one of the “little twins of Maura Tower” :)

    Ciaooo

Eventually we solved the riddle on IRC. I got it right at the third attempt.. it wasn’t an easy one though ! The first hint was somewhat misleading, the second one got me almost there but with more than one doubt: 1) how am I supposed to remember where everyone lived 2) given that I understand that, which one of the two “twins” is it ?
It was cool anyway. That reminds me an article I read several years ago on a computer magazine that I worshipped at the time (which I know think that by following the times, it has completely lots it’s original spirit) in which a writer explained how some coincidences aren’t so weird after all. For example, take 20 classmates, do the math and see that the chances that you get two people to be born on the same day aren’t so far off (roughly one in 18 (365/20)). ..let alone coincidences such as when two people’s birthdays are off by just one day.
We are often amused by something that has a quite normal statistical explanation behind it… still.. it’s fun !
